We have talked about Tieks before here and they were one of our sponsoring partners during Shoe Week's NYFW Style Tweetup. How can you not love that these flats are super chic and foldable? In addition, we're huge fans of their photoshoots which are so lifestyle focused (and let's not even talk about all the color options that are available in the Robin's Egg colored bottoms)!
With the cold snap finally here, summer has officially bitten the dust. So it’s time to slip off those sandals and step into sturdier footwear for winter. We’ve taken a look at the latest catwalk shows and lookbooks to bring you the biggest footwear trends for the autumn/winter season, guaranteed to have you stepping out in style whatever the weather.
With a nod to the 60s, still an inspirational decade for designers in 2012, the Chelsea boot is back for autumn. Already spotted on style mavens Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller et al, they’re the perfect laid back boot with a masculine edge for those who like their look vintage and low-maintenance. The classic Chelsea is flat, like this perfect pair from BANK, but you’ll also see heeled varieties on the high street, as well as punchy patterns and wild animal prints.
A major trend on the latest Fashion Week catwalks, brocade makes a regal return for autumn and winter. Proenza Schouler, Stella McCartney, Erdem and more created stunning pieces using this historic textured look, once favoured by European royalty. Vogue picked up the trend, which is across the style board – from statement trousers to elegant evening dresses, and footwear designers have infused their collections with the trend too. Dolce and Gabbana went with the classic brocade shades of black and gold to create some unmissable heels for their Milan Fashion Week show, so expect to see copycats on the high street soon.
Another strong trend for winter, notably at British design houses McQ, Burberry and Stella McCartney, is the military trend. This year’s statement winter coat needs tough footwear to match, so military-inspired boots, both ankle and knee high, became a familiar sight on the runways. Think chunky soles and buckles, like this Victoria Beckham pair from her New York Fashion Week show, and bold lace-up knee highs. Don’t be afraid to mix this masculine edge with feminine skirts and dresses, and conversely, a hot look on the runways was the contrast between tough military coats and ladylike heels.
Following on from the spring and summer’s colour block craze, footwear designers are injecting colour into their autumn/winter collections. Just like colour block, the key bold splashes of block colour, with plenty of contrast. From heels with contrasting soles, to blocky, patchwork leather, everyone from Balenciaga to Fendi worked some in-your-face colour into their fall 2012 collections.
When it comes to heels this autumn, spikes are out. Instead, designers have given us towering heels that are easier to walk in, and stocky heels are in. A staple of the Queen’s wardrobe for decades, the Royal fashion bug seems to be spreading, as now everyone from Alexa to Lana Del Ray has been spotted in these statement court shoes. They featured in the latest collections from Chanel, Chloe and Valentino, and make a perfect sidekick to the combined colour trend, with the blocky heel showing off that contrasting colour to a tee.
